What does an elite soccer team do when they have a day off? Answer: they take the FOGGY BOTTOMS RACE by storm! FC Samoa athletes are FIT! The u12 team placed 1-2-3-4-5 in their bracket (and thus won the team trophy). Maygan Graves(1st place) was also the 2nd OVERALL female finisher- (13 minutes and change)-amazing at 12 yrs old. There is a "we love to run" subculture among this soccer cohort, and we at FCS couldn't be happier that this is their idea of a day off. Special mention: One doesn't usually think of GOALKEEPERS as distance runners....but Carson Pope defied the stereotype in taking 20th place. Great work girls !

After three years together, FC Samoa’s U15 Girls kicked off their spring soccer season with a virtuoso performance that may have put Humboldt Club soccer on the map! As the only U15 girls traveling team in Humboldt, these talented players entered and dominated the Gold-level, Diablo Cup in Concord, CA this past weekend. With two decisive 4-0 victories over two talented teams (Nevada Elite – Ranked #6 in Nevada & FC Elk Grove – Ranked #27 in CA), and a 1-1 tie vs. Athletico Santa Rosa, these accomplished Humboldt County soccer athletes walked away feeling pretty proud! The highlight of the weekend was a stunning upset of the FC Elk Grove squad, with a 4-0 victory over this highly talented “Premier” team. Olivia Ritter and Ashleigh Harrison combined to score four goals each over only two games, with Samantha Killfoil scoring the decisive single goal in the 1-1 tie game. Maddie Pomerantz continued her patented defensive goalie performance, by allowing only one goal during the entire tournament. Coach, Nick Parker stated, "Our defense-in-depth was near perfect...and our counterattack was as swift and deadly as you will see at this level." This performance bodes well as FC Samoa kicks off their Gold-level spring season in late March.

Congratulations to Ashleigh Harrison (Mendo County and SFHS) who has made the 3rd and final cut to earn a spot on the PDP squad that is preparing players for (even higher levels of play) and a round of inter-State tourneys. This is a highly rigourous and prestigious invitation-only program open to only the top 30 d1 players (born in 1998) in the entire Northern California playing district (thousands and thousands of female players). Ashleigh drives once or twice a month to the Bay Area to receive coaching/train with the team. One of the staff coaches is the u-17 NATIONAL team coach, who runs a few of the trainings.
Ashleigh has also earned a TRYOUT at the professional Academy of PSG (yes the actual Paris Saint Germain pro club who are the "Arsenal" of Paris). Ash will travel in early June and spend a week at the Club, training with both the Boys and Girls' squads.
* Note the last (and we believe only??) Humboldt player to make the STATE team was the now-famous Piakai Henkel...who also went on to play U-17 pro with PSG !!! Coincidence? I think not.
Go Ashleigh Go PSG Go FC SAMOA

Riding the momentum of an undefeated NorCal D1 soccer season, FC Samoa’s U15 girls took their experience and confidence to the Placer United Cup this past weekend, competing in a large all girls D1 tournament. The result was another championship trophy and an offensive and defensive clinic, culminating in 17 goals scored, with only 2 goals allowed. When combined with the regular season success and prior tournaments, this performance brings the Samoa win streak to 18 games, and moves FC Samoa up in the Western Region rankings from 82nd to 59th, as they move forward towards spring 2013 competition. Leading scorers in the tournament were Olivia Ritter and Ashleigh Harrison, followed by Hannah Pomerantz, Terra Clarke and Claire Bareilles. In a related story, FC Samoa’s feisty U12 girls team also competed at the Placer Cup, winning their 1st game in a gold level tournament, with Athena Miller securing a hat trick.

Thanks to Kevin O'Neal of ERSC (u13G), eight of our u-14 players will travel (with 8 from ERSC) to a Tourney in Northern Sweden. Kevin is a veteran of 3 such soccer dream vacations, and we hope he will continue to offer these golden opportunities in future years. The "euro 16" is busy fundraising, so if you happen upon one of their events, please consider dropping something in the hat !
